BFRS Delivering Military Talent to Industry

Date: Thursday January 12, 2017 at 10:23am

In 2016, the UK’s unemployment rates reached an eleven-year,1 the work British Forces Resettlement Services (BFRS) delivers, ensures those that have served in Her Majesty’s Armed Forces, i.e: Service Leavers, the Reserve Forces and their families are not forgotten in their next career steps, which means BFRS are contributing to this fall.

BFRS are staging their first National Employment & Careers Fair of 2017 in Aldershot, bringing Industry and the Armed Forces Community (AFC) together to provide future career opportunities.

As a Social Enterprise, BFRS continue to embrace the growing need to help industry expand and fill the genuine skills gaps and shortages that are now being experienced. An analysis from the CBI/ Pearson Education reported “More than half of businesses UK-wide fear they will not be able to recruit enough high-skilled workers to meet demand and grow.”

Whilst many private & public sectors have had understandable restraints on training and development, those who have and are serving in the Armed Forces, have always had a continuous professional development programme to ensure they deliver to the highest level, and ensure “qualifications that can be gained are matched to civilian qualifications (or accredited).”  3

This training incorporates working directly with the huge number of commercial partners to the MOD, not only to provide best practice for the military, but bringing a hugely diverse workforce in line with industry standards.

Therefore, BFRS has seen a high demand from Industry to attend the Employment Fairs for the Armed Forces Community, as they understand business and the skill shortages that are now being experienced across many sectors, including transport & logistics, engineering and manufacturing, and fully recognise, by bringing military talent to industry, they can help companies deliver for the future.

This reinforces why the Career Events they stage are so popular with companies looking to employ those leaving the Forces, Veterans, the Reserve Forces and their families. On Thursday 19th Jan 2017 between 09:30 and 14:00, BFRS is hosting the first National Employment & Careers Fair of the year at the Aldershot Garrison Sports Centre, Rawlinson Road, Aldershot, Hampshire. GU11 2LQ.

This event is sponsored by Nuco Training, with Bristol Management Centre sponsoring the Networking & Refreshment Area. On the day those attending can meet employers in person, talk to training & education providers and add their CV to a drop box so that it can be distributed to employers who work with BFRS. 400+ people are expected to attend on the day, and exhibitors will include Scania (Great Britain), Transport for London, Heathrow Airport, Ericsson Ltd, HM Prison Service and Balfour Beatty to name a few.

BFRS Managing Director Neil Dean states: “Our focus is on helping the Armed Forces Community find new careers which match their training, experience and aspirations. Visitors will be able to speak to employers and recruiters representing a wide range of industries and chat to training companies to identify any training needs they require for their chosen civilian career.”
