Bringing Military Talent to Industry - BFRS Comes to Oxford!

A previous BFRS Jobs & Career Fair

British Forces Resettlement Services (BFRS) are coming back to Oxford, 2 years after staging a Career Event in the City which attracted over 350 attendee's, amongst these were over 100 personnel from 23 Pioneer Regiment prior to their disbandment.

This is due to the growing need to help industry with their economic growth, expand and fill the genuine skill gaps and shortages that are now being experienced. An analysis from the CBI/ Pearson education reported “More than half of businesses UK-wide fear they will not be able to recruit enough high-skilled workers to meet demand and grow.”

Whilst many private & public sectors have had understandable restraints on training and development, those who have and are serving in the Armed Forces, have always had a continuous professional development programme to ensure they deliver to the highest level, and ensure “qualifications that can be gained are matched to civilian qualifications (or accredited).”

This training incorporates working directly with the huge number of commercial partners to the MOD, not only to provide best practice for the military, but bringing a hugely diverse workforce in line with industry standards.

All at BFRS understands the military; many are former military personnel, who have previously delivered a "bridging service" with industry and the Armed Forces. Together, they work with those leaving the military, those serving in the Reserve Forces, Veterans, MOD employees and their families, and crucially translate the skills and qualifications into, where needed, civilian talk!

They have a personal understanding that those who have served in the armed forces are not all about the bullets and the guns. They know that they manage procurement and budgets, deliver HR functions for hundreds of people from a very diverse background, manage equipment and expenditure, plus have industry trades, which civilian companies are crying out for.

BFRS has seen such high demand from Industry to attend Career events for the Armed Forces Community, because they understand business and the skill shortages that are now being experienced across many sectors, including transport & logistics, engineering and manufacturing, and fully recognise, by bringing military talent to industry, they can help companies deliver for the future.

This reinforces why the Career Events we stage are so popular with companies looking to employ those leaving the forces, Veterans and those in the Reserve Forces. On Thursday 12th May 2016 between 09:30 and 14:00hrs, BFRS is hosting a free jobs & careers fair at The Kassam Stadium, Grenoble Road, Oxford, OX4 4XP.

The event is sponsored by Explosive Learning Solutions, and is aimed at Service Leavers, the Reserve Forces, Veterans, MOD employees and their families. This event gives those attending an opportunity to meet employers in person, receive free CV advice, talk to training & education providers and add their CV to a drop box so that it can be distributed to employers who work with BFRS. 350+ people are expected to attend on the day, and exhibitors will include our Gold sponsors; Bristol Management Centre and Balfour Beatty Rail, along with Scania (Great Britain), FDM Group, Heathrow Airport, Laing O'Rourke, and Oxford University Hospital.

BFRS Managing Director Neil Dean states: “Our focus is on helping the Armed Forces Community find new careers which match their training, experience and aspirations. Visitors will be able to speak to employers and recruiters representing a wide range of industries and chat to training companies to identify any training needs they require for their chosen civilian career.”
