Hiring over 5,000 new employees to its business in the last 12 months, WGPSN has developed innovative recruitment initiatives to attract new people to its business, develop existing skills and create opportunities to transfer key skills. Re-Engineer is one such initiative. A UK-based career conversion programme developed to provide ex-Military personnel with the opportunity to transfer their skills into the Oil and Gas sector, Re-Engineer is one of WGPSN’s most important people development initiatives. It represents the company’s investment in the development of a skilled expert workforce. The programme consists of an eight-week intensive training course, developed in collaboration with the ECITB (Engineering & Construction Industry Training Board).
The course prepares candidates with the necessary skills, knowledge and competency to work offshore safely and results in each of the candidates achieving Vocational Qualification (VQ) Level 2. Individuals will then go on to complete 18 months of on-the-job training, assessment and verification, typically spending much of their time offshore on some of Wood Group PSN's busiest North Sea projects, following a curriculum to attain their NVQ Level 3. The course is a unique and structured approach to bridging the skills gap and enables WGPSN to bring additional skilled technicians into the Oil & Gas and wider Energy sector.
The company plans to run more Re-Engineer courses in 2013 for maintenance technicians and production operations technicians, recruiting personnel from the Armed Forces as well as other continuous process industries, such as the petro-chemical and manufacturing sectors. Come along to the event on 4th September to find out more about the employment opportunities we have available.
