Showset helped one attendee at our Bovington event, by sponsoring their training, even buying them a suit and supporting them along the way until they secured a job through Showset 247.

I left the Army last year after 11 years’ service and found the adjustment to civilian life very difficult: unemployment was, and still is, high. I attended a resettlement fair held by British Forces Resettlement Service (BFRS) at Bovington Camp in Dorset, where I came across the Showset247 Ltd stand. There I spoke to Dave Jordan, the company’s Operations Manager, and his colleague, for some time.

During my own military resettlement phase I completed all my NEBOSH courses thinking that with those qualifications and my construction knowledge within the Royal Engineers I would be able to find work, but that was not the case. I became homeless after leaving the military and lived on the streets for a few months, sleeping under Bournemouth Pier, unable to find work. I had thought about doing close protection as a career but could not find the funds to pay for the course, which I explained to Dave Jordan. He described to me the types of services that his company offers and also told me the list of successful, high-profile clients that he and his company look after, which was very impressive.

Dave helped me get on to one of his Close Protection courses, which was very intense but fun. The course took a practical, hands-on approach, involving a lot of operational planning, surveillance and practical drills. Teaching was given by a very knowledgeable team of close protection operators and bodyguards with years of experience. The 18-day course was intense and enjoyable in a friendly and relaxed atmosphere, culminating in a five-day practical live exercise, which was as real as you could possibly get, and with a critique after the completion of each phase.

After I completed the course, Dave then gave me some low-level work in the heart of Kensington, London, as well as getting me on to the team to secure St Katherine’s Dock, also in London, during the weekend of Her Majesty the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee, where I made a number of contacts with people in the security industry. Since completing the course I have managed to get back on my feet and find employment in and around the Bournemouth and Poole area, and am also looking at working in the Middle East with well-known security companies after successfully being selected for interviews in London.

If you are looking to work in the security industry I would strongly recommend Showset 247 Ltd as your training provider. Learning that a lot of other training providers teach via ‘death by PowerPoint’, it was refreshing to take the more hands-on approach to learning, which was invaluable to learning such skills as you need within the industry. To this day I regularly contact Showset247 Ltd to see if it has any additional work in and around the capital as Dave Jordan’s contacts in the security industry as well as the entertainment industry are second to none.
